Canada: business visit and work route

Business invitation: Business visitors may attend meetings, events or business discussions and can generally stay up to 6 months where admitted on that basis.

Work route: Any later employment stage must follow the applicable IRCC work-permit or employer-sponsored route. The temporary public policy that allowed certain visitors to apply for work permits from within Canada ended on 28 August 2024.

Long-term residence: If eligibility is confirmed, permanent residence options may include Express Entry, a provincial nomination programme, an employer-supported route or another lawful pathway.

Visitor status does not create an automatic right to work or obtain a Canadian work permit. Any later employment stage must use the appropriate work-authorisation process under current IRCC rules. A business invitation supports a genuine visit purpose; it does not by itself grant a visa, permission to work or permanent residence.
